A summer full of fun is good for one! The lotteries were sponsored by Tupperware company.

24 June an amazing festival, Wedding on a Summer’s Night, took place at the Hermitage Garden. The festival was arranged by our wonderful friends, the team of the Seasons magazine, and we can say it with confidence that the day was filled with inspiration, breath-taking surprises and magic!

21 June was the Beauty Day. It is a high day organized by Nastenka Charity Foundation and Mone beauty parlors chain for the mothers of children with oncology.
On that day masters and stylists of Mone came to the Scientific and Research Institute for Pediatric Oncology on the invitation of Nastenka Foundation to cut, lay and style hair of the mothers of sick children. All the mothers waited for this opportunity for days, and when the Beauty day came they only shyly peered into the room and were afraid to leave their children alone even for half an hour. But as they saw first results everybody decided to do a hair-cut, so they started coming to the conference room of the Oncology Center together with their children, and for 4 hours it turned into a small beauty parlor.
This day became a true high day for the mothers, it made them recall how beautiful they are. They got so used to spend all their efforts and thoughts for care of their children, and now the best stylists from beauty parlors were taking care of them! The mothers got shine back in their eyes, and for that evening they could take their minds off their problems. And masters and stylists hardly ever saw clients who would be that grateful!
With all our hearts we thank Mone beauty parlor for the wonderful day!

30 march On the initiative of about 40 non-commercial organizations the collection of signatures under the address to the President was started with the request to introduce the concept of orphan drugs in the law “On circulation of medical substances”. The law adopted by the State Duma on March 24 2010 says nothing about orphan preparations, i.e. the drugs which are vitally important for sick people with rare diseases (a number of genetic, hereditary and oncologic diseases).
Orphan drugs which include such preparations as Kosmegen, Depocit, Erwinasa, Foskavir and others, are of vital importance to thousands and millions of sick Russian people. There is an official way to import such medicines, but not everyone is able to go through the tortures connected with making necessary papers and searching for a pharmaceutical company abroad, which would be ready to sell the necessary preparations against a Russian prescription, buy them and deliver to Russia thoroughly maintaining certain temperature. This takes several months, and many sick people just do not survive till the time the preparation arrives.
The problem of orphan drugs was raised more than once by a number of charity foundations and non-commercial organizations, associations of patients with rare diseases and other medical representatives. This is not the first address on this issue to the government of the country. But no marked changes were seen. When even the definition of orphan drugs disappeared from the draft of the law “On medical substances circulation” in the 1st reading, as well as the order of their speedy registration, we decided to raise the alarm.
We are calling upon you to add your signature and hope that as a result of direct address to the President of the RF Dmitry Medvedev the problem of orphan drugs will be solved and thousands of Russian people will be able finally to get help on which their lives or lives of their relatives depend.

A new internet project, neurooncologia.ru, was opened. Aim of the project is to provide information on diagnostics and treatment of children’s brain cancer and create a space for communication of parents, children and specialists.
Every year in Russia around 1000 children get cancer of brain. This number is very approximate, because official statistic data on this problem in Russia is not available. It is as if some information vacuum formed itself around pediatric oncology in general, and neurooncology in particular. In other words, today there is no any resource providing the latest and true data on diseases linked with appearance of brain tumor, or on their diagnostics and treatment. Creating a web site like this is a timely and in some cases life-critical matter!

At 12.30 sharp the bike ride took off, and the cyclists stretched in a chain headed for the Federal Center for Children’s Haematology under construction. They’ve overcome the distance of 8 kilometers very vigorously, with almost no stops. They made their finish at the entrance to the construction site one hour after starting. Welcomers greeted the cyclists with “Hurrah!” cheers and handed a red balloon to every one of them, so that every donor could write on them their blood group and Rhesus factor. While the cyclists were cycling to the construction site a different activity was taking place there: the charges of Give Life Foundation, their parents and volunteers, following the established summer tradition, were painting the fence with flowers, suns, smiles and Donors to Children logos. Accompanied by tunes and children’s songs, our dear clown volunteers paraded around the site. Then organizers of the festivity went up to the stage and said very truthful words of gratitude to the donors. In fact, it is continual, patient and in most cases anonymous participation of donors which makes treatment and recovery of our children possible! It can be said without exaggeration that donors are everything for us!
